If you’ve just spent nothing on an awesome carbon Scott CR1 then you most certainly can do yourself a favour and do a wheel upgrade.
Wheels are the most effective upgrade you can do. Angela didn’t want to spend more than 10k on wheels. I found lots of carbon tubbies on The Hub for a great price. Also some carbon alloy clinchers. I needed 10spd compatible for this older bike.
However, we finally agreed on these American Classics (Argent alloy). I LOVE this brand. Always have. I love the rad sticker design on these and similar age deep-section models. Of late (and the ones we currently own) the stickers are a tad conservative (#justsaying)… But these are Awesome. The seller was in the Western Cape. He was great through this process and packaged them and shipped them at his cost like a pro! (private seller). Thank you, Christopher (that is his actual name, I didn’t make that one up).
Angela (this one is made up), these will make your bike roll so smooth and FAST! Enjoy your road bike training camp(s)! We can’t wait to see you racing road bikes again. Your age group won’t. But we’ll enjoy you not on the back of a bloody tandem that’s for sure!
