Quick releases, or QRs, use a lever system to secure the wheels into the frame. The advantage is that it’s pretty easy take your wheels on and off your bike. It is important however, that you have your wheels firmly seated in the dropouts before tightening the lever. It takes a little practice to get the right tension. You need it to be tight enough to eliminate any play in the axle, but not too tight so it impairs the movement of the wheel.
