Potentially we have a winning formula here? BACK by popular demand, ANOTHER “Sparta” type ride. Now a winter version to keep your training goals alive. We actually tried this back in 2017. It was a Qhubeka challenge around the TdF of that year. As always, with any of “Nigel’s Rides” we start with a small bunch of misfits willing to try something different, THANK YOU to those misfits – it looked like this back then https://www.strava.com/activities/1073679269
We’ve come some ways since then… actually, that year we did an Everesting (Jan) and developed Sparta (Dec). Added to that this July ride it turned into a BIG year that bared fruit to other fund raising activities in years to come.
This is our (Nigel & Bron Laver: Organisers) fund raising quota for The Cows (for CHOC) . Each rider will pay R450 for 250km and 2000m of climbing. We have indeed increased our price since Dec 2021 Sparta because everyone who has joined us for the past 2 times said we should – so, we did! With a gigantic influence by SAICOM our title sponsor (THANK YOU Gents), we encourage (strongly) anyone who wants to donate to the cause (over and above your entry fee) to donate separately here please.
With our generous sponsors/partners in place we guarantee 100% of your entry money (and donations) goes directly to CHOC. As a participant you can expect a rolling convoy type ride courtesy of Think Bike Marshals. Mechanical support with several follow vehicles. Delicious food sponsored by Foodlovers prepared by our Chef Bjarne Henriksen (at multiple stops along route) plus refreshments during the ride and post DRINKS and Food after.
PACE:
We will have three sets of follow vehicles plus 16 Motorbike marshals. We will split the groups from the start. We have the S2S crew as dedicated 2nd group leaders/pace setters (Probably around 30-32km/p/h) PLUS for the fast okes, we have the E2E and Steady Crew setting a tempo ride at 34km/p/h+. THIS IS NOT A RACE. At BEST, it’s by far the best “coffee ride” you’ve ever experienced.
WARNING:
This is NOT a “ride at your own pace” type ride. We must keep our rolling convoy TIGHT! If you are way off the back and on your own, out of sight of the bunch, you will be asked to jump in the follow vehicle so they can catch up to the back of the group. It’s only fair to the follow vehicle crew and the group that is now exposed without a follow vehicle defending their rear flank.
